CPR/AED and First Aid Combo

CPR, AED, and First Aid training is a comprehensive course designed to equip individuals with the skills to respond to a variety of emergencies, including cardiac arrest, choking, and injuries. The training focuses on life-saving techniques for both medical and trauma-related situations, empowering participants to provide initial care until professional help arrives. It's a valuable course for anyone wanting to be better prepared to assist in emergencies.

Key Components of CPR, AED, and First Aid Training

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Purpose: To restore partial flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and heart in someone experiencing cardiac arrest.

Techniques:

  • Chest Compressions: Performed at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute, with a depth of 2 inches (5 cm) for adults.
  • Rescue Breathing: Giving breaths (mouth-to-mouth or with a mask) after every 30 compressions, or in some cases, focusing on compressions only (hands-only CPR).
  • Infant and Child CPR: Adjustments to compression depth, rate, and breath delivery based on the patient’s size and age.
  • CPR for Adults: Focused on strong, continuous chest compressions with the option of incorporating rescue breaths.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Use

Purpose: To deliver an electric shock to a person experiencing sudden cardiac arrest to help restore a normal heart rhythm.

Techniques:

  • Operation: How to turn on the AED, follow voice prompts, and place the electrode pads on the patient’s chest.
  • Shock Delivery: Understanding when a shock is advised by the AED and how to deliver it safely.
  • AED for Adults and Children: Learning how to adjust AED settings and pad placement for different age groups.
  • Post-Shock CPR: Knowing how to resume CPR immediately after a shock if necessary.

Emergency Response Steps

  • Assessing the Scene: Ensuring the scene is safe for both the rescuer and the victim.
  • Activating the Emergency Response System: Calling 911 or the appropriate      emergency number as soon as possible.
  • Checking for Breathing and Pulse: Quickly assessing whether the      victim is breathing and has a pulse, and determining the need for CPR.
  • Recovery Position: Knowing how to place a person in a safe position if they are      breathing but unconscious to prevent airway obstruction.

First Aid

Purpose: To provide initial care for a variety of medical and trauma-related emergencies before professional medical assistance is available.

Key Topics Covered:

  • Bleeding Control: Techniques for managing external bleeding, such as applying direct pressure, using bandages, and making improvised tourniquets. Burns: Treatment of minor and severe burns, including cooling the burn and covering it with sterile dressings.
  • Fractures and Sprains: Immobilization techniques using splints or slings to prevent further injury.
  • Choking (Heimlich Maneuver): How to assist someone who is choking, including abdominal thrusts for adults and back slaps and chest thrusts for infants.
  • Shock Management: Recognizing the signs of shock (such as pale skin, rapid breathing, and weak pulse) and providing care by laying the patient down and keeping them warm.
  • Poisoning: Basic steps to take when poisoning is suspected, including calling poison control and ensuring the patient’s safety.
